Upcoming concerts

RRIICCEE, 11:30 p.m. Saturday at Schubas, 3159 N. Southport Ave., Chicago. $15. (773) 525-2508.

Vincent Gallo, one of the most irritating film personalities allowed a production budget, is on tour to introduce a new band, described as a "spontaneous collective" between him and former Hole drummer Eric Erlandson. With no recorded music and no plans to ever enter the studio, expect this star turn to feature a lot of jamming at the artistic level of "The Brown Bunny." Gallo, a former model turned actor and director, will also be on hand -- well, onscreen at least -- when Schubas presents a free advance screening 9 p.m. Sunday of "Johnny 316," his new film.

Wu-Tang Clan with Decay and Astonish and DJ Intel, 10 p.m. Saturday at Metro, 3730 N. Clark St., Chicago. $42/$45 (312) 559-1212.

The infamous hip-hop collective at times featuring The RZA, Inspectah Deck and of course the late, great ODB, return for this show to feature tracks from "8 Diagrams," the group's first new album in six years.

Charlie Louvin, 6 p.m. Sunday at Schubas, 3159 N. Southport Ave., Chicago. $20. (773) 525-2508.

Here is one of the most special shows of 2007. One of the great harmony singers and songwriters of country music, Charlie Louvin, recorded a catalog of classics with his brother Ira in the 1950s and 1960s when the Louvin Brothers became one of the first best-selling country groups of the era, which later profoundly influenced the new country generation, from The Byrds to Uncle Tupelo. Today, Louvin is 80 and on the heels of a self-titled new album on New York indie Tompkins Square that puts him in the studio with an all-star cast (including Jeff Tweedy, Marty Stuart, Will Oldham, George Jones, etc.) for recordings of Louvin Brothers classics.

The Second Annual Hideout Christmas Viking/Dalek Panto, 7 and 10 p.m. Thursday, Friday, Dec. 21 and Saturday, Dec. 22, at the Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia, Chicago. $5/$12. (773) 227-4433.

The music club resurrects a hit from last year: a British-style theater/music performance featuring members of the Mekons (Sally Timms, Jon Langford), Freakwater (Janet Bean), Chicago soul singer Kelly Hogan as well as other assorted Hideout regulars. The panto -- a British pub tradition featuring highbrow theater actors slumming in campy vaudeville fare -- will tell a Christmas-themed story featuring Vikings, sea creatures and the Abominable Snow-Woman. The early shows are safe for kids; the late shows are made especially bawdy for adults. Visit hideoutchicago.com for full details.
