W. Dundee police find body inside burned car
A 64-year old man was found dead early this morning inside a car parked in his garage that caught fire overnight in West Dundee, police said.
Firefighters found the body of Thomas E. Pfeiffer sometime after 2 a.m. after containing the blaze that had engulfed the detached garage, police said.
Police said there's no evidence of foul play, but they are still investigating.
Pfeiffer appears to have died from burns he sustained in the fire, said Kane County Coroner Chuck West.
"They have been great neighbors and have been a part of this block for 25 to 30 years," said Tom Warner, who has lived across the street from the home for 73 years. "They are good people who were always friendly. We never had any problems with them at all."
Warner said the residents raised two daughters in the home and would often participate in neighborhood block parties.
"They are very quiet, very nice people," said Warner, watching as neighbors gathered on his driveway late Friday afternoon. "It comes as a shock when you lose some like that. It upsets everybody."
