Man charged with hijacking car in Elgin
A Berwyn man has been accused of carjacking a woman delivering newspapers at 4:20 a.m. Monday in Elgin, police said.
Javon L. Comer, 21, whose last known address was in Berwyn, will be charged with aggravated vehicular hijacking, said Ann Dinges, public information officer of the Elgin Police Department.
Comer was arrested in Monday night in Elmhurst and spent the night in their jail, police said.
The 26-year-old victim from Gilberts told police she was delivering newspapers Monday morning in an apartment building on the 100 block of State Street when a man entered the unlocked vestibule.
After he asked for her card to enter the rest of the building which was locked and she told him she didn't have one, he grabbed her by the back of her head and pushed her into her 2003 Ford Expedition parked in the lot outside.
The woman said he slapped her a couple of times after they got into the Expedition and pushed something cold into her neck, possibly a gun.
While they were driving away, she said she saw a woman walking her dog at the corner of Locust and Crystal streets. She then threw the Expedition into park, jumped out of the vehicle and began running and screaming.
The man who hijacked her SUV jumped from the back seat into the driver's seat and drove west on Locust.
Comer's bond was set at $40,000.
Comer has been on parole since Sept. 21 on charges including receiving and/or possession of a stolen vehicle in Cook County, police said.
