Rev. Sharpton: End police brutality or I'll fight your Olympic bid

The Reverend Al Sharpton is giving Chicago officials an ultimatum: Do something about what he calls pervasive police brutality or he'll lobby the International Olympic Committee to drop Chicago's bid to host the 2016 Summer Games.

He claims that if the city can't deal with its local problems, it shouldn't hold an international event. He's launching his campaign Monday.

The civil rights activist opened a branch of his National Action Network in Chicago in September to address what he calls a volatile relationship between Chicago residents and police.

A Chicago 2016 spokesman declined to address Sharpton's comments. Messages left for city officials weren't immediately returned.

Chicago is among several cities bidding for the 2016 Olympics. The IOC will pick a host city in 2009.
