Melt guns down, hold a bake sale

I cannot believe Carpentersville's village board. Though I often disagree with Presidant Bill Sarto, I am on his side over the possible gun sales. Police departments all over the country offer "no questions asked" gun turn-ins, where the civilians bring in their guns for cash to get these weapons off the streets.

These guns are suppose to be melted down and not returned to the public, where they may end up in the wrong hands. As if our village board has not had enough bad press, let's add to it by taking no longer used guns from the police department and offer them up for sale.

Why not put up bill boards saying: "Welcome to Carpentersville, the town that gives back. See our local police department now for your gun."

Come on guys, is $3,000 that important? I've seen more than that raised at a bake sale. I applaud Tom Roeser for his offer, but it is sure sad that an offer such as his has to come into play with this village. Melt the darn things down and have a bake sale.

Paul Humpfer said in the Dec. 13 paper that he needed to "understand why he (Roeser) is doing this." Wake up and smell the coffee, Paul.

Roeser's doing this because we have enough guns floating around this village as it is. Why add to that supply? Chief Neumann said there is "no evidence of a former police issued gun being used in a crime in Carpentersville." So what? How many crimes have there been involving guns of any type? We don't need more weapons on our streets.

We need to clean up this village and stop advertising Carpentersville's stupidity. Melt the guns now!
