Theatre Company of Sun City offers scholarships

The Theatre Company of Sun City has announced that its Scholarship Program for 2008 will start accepting requests for applications Jan. 2.

Each year the company dedicates a portion of its annual budget to a scholarship fund directed toward helping young people. Last year scholarships were awarded to talented students.

The program was designed to help defer the costs of theater-related training, workshops and camps. Such training should be directed toward developing skills and confidence in all theater arts, whether in acting, sound, lighting, set design or other roles associated with putting on a show.

Awards are open to all full-time students, including those in college. Recipients do not have to be a relative of a Sun City Huntley resident. Equal consideration is given to all students.

The number of scholarships awarded each year varies. Scholarships usually range from $100 to $500 each. Awards are not for ongoing year-round schooling or cost associated as part of a show.

Recipients will be selected by the Theatre Company's Board of Directors. Usually no in-person interview or audition will be required; therefore, written application requirements are important. This process may be augmented by telephone discussion.

To apply for a scholarship, contact Tony Loforte to obtain application instructions and required forms. He can be reached at AnthonyJ@msn.com.

It is anticipated that the board will be making selections in May.

Completed applications should be received no later than April 12. A Theatre Company Scholarship Fund representative will contact winners as soon as possible.

Awards will be sent directly to the organization providing the training with the recipient's name on the check.
