Jailed former cop seeks return of property

A jailed Chicago police officer sometimes described as the city's most corrupt has asked a federal judge for the return of his property.

Joseph Miedzianowski is serving life in prison for running a Miami-to-Chicago drug ring with the help of gang members. He wants not only his sports memorabilia, Nazi SS cuff links, ring and a dagger but dozens of guns, knives, tear gas, bulletproof vests, handcuffs and a pair of samurai swords.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian Netols seemed opposed to the request, pointing out the weapons Miedzianowski wanted back.

U.S. District Judge Blanche Manning also was baffled by Miedzianowski's request for a key to a Chicago Police Department vehicle.

Attorney Martin Blumenthal said he had simply attached to his motion the FBI receipts listing the property seized by agents
