Lake Zurich school board salutes state champion Bears
Lake Zurich High School's state football champions received a final public cheer Thursday night.
Board members at Lake Zurich Unit District 95 honored the boys varsity football squad at their meeting in the high school's little theater. The kudos tossed to the football team were part of a festive evening that included student-of-the-month honors and other recognitions.
District 95 board member Jan Putbress read the resolution praising the football champs. It was the first state championship for Lake Zurich High's football squad.
"The Bears were relentless in their pursuit of victory in each and every game," Putbress said.
In addition, the board praised the football team for bringing recognition and honor to District 95 and the Lake Zurich community. Four representatives from the team were present to accept the resolution.
Head coach Brian Stortz was reported to be on "baby duty" Thursday night and was unable to attend the board meeting.
Lake Zurich topped Wheaton Warrenville South to snag the Class 7A state title in Champaign last month. More than 1,500 fans turned out to welcome home the Bears with a celebration at Lake Zurich High's gymnasium a day after the victory.
Bears players and coaches were champions on the field as well as off, the District 95 board resolution stated.
