Young man killed in I-90 crash

A 24-year-old Chicago man was killed this morning in a four-vehicle crash on Interstate 90 in Elgin, police said.

Investigators are searching for the driver of a white Cadillac blamed for the wreck, which involved a bus carrying 10 people but resulted in no other injuries.

"We have investigations and everybody else on it right now," said Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Carlita Joe. "Hopefully we can come up with something."

Joe identified the deceased as David A. Nazario of Chicago. He died of unspecified injuries at the scene, she said.

The crash took place about 8:30 a.m. just east of Route 31. Joe said the Cadillac was entering eastbound 1-90 from a ramp when it veered into the lane where Nazario was driving a 1995 Honda Civic.

Nazario swerved into the next lane over, Joe said, and was struck by a Nissan Maxima driven by Jason R. Hepsinger, 37, of Lake in the Hills. Nazario's car then spun out, "bounced off the left median wall" and came to rest in the path of a bus driven by Michael L. Edwards, 51, of Beloit, Wis., she said.

The bus was carrying 10 passengers when it slammed into Nazario's vehicle, police said. It is unclear whether the passengers were adults or children.

No other injuries were reported. All of the identified drivers were wearing seat belts.

One interstate lane was shut down while crews investigated.

Police are interviewing witnesses but have no further description of the Cadillac, other than its color, Joe said.
