Please give our new village a chance

In April, the registered voters of Campton and Plato townships, after many public informational meetings and coffees, voted to incorporate into the Village of Campton Hills.

Now opponents to the incorporation are crying foul and are attempting to sway opinion by using the fear issue of increased taxes.

Property taxes cannot be raised without a referendum. Referendums would require the election process to take place again.

All it requires is being a registered voter and a responsible citizen.

Where we are today is not the result of sneaky action, but the end result of a majority of free people taking a concerned interest via the democratic process.

Non-registered voters did not have an admission ticket to this process.

If you were a registered voter and didn't vote, you don't understand the democratic process.

The opposition to this village incorporation has attempted to scare the voter into not trusting the appointed officials.

We would rather put our faith in those people who live in our community than let it be controlled by outside interests.

In the 28 years that we have lived in Campton Township, we have many examples of controlled progress and growth.

Initially, we haven't always agreed with them, but have been proven wrong by results achieved by our neighbors.

Working with the developers to control our growth and getting appropriate development monies up front will assist us in controlling some of the school budget issues, which now account for over 75 percent of our tax obligation.

We need to support the village and give those neighbors who have worked so hard on our behalf to furnish us a voice in our future.

Please give the new village of Campton Hills a chance.
