Teen dies after fall through ice

A teen pulled from the bottom of a retention pond in Oak Brook Friday afternoon died Friday night.

Alden Pietsch-Ng of Oak Park died at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove at 10:08 p.m., according to the DuPage County Coroner's office.

Rescue crews from throughout DuPage County spent more than an hour searching beneath the icy waters of the pond, located in the Forest Glen subdivision after someone reported seeing the teen go through the ice near a pedestrian bridge.

It wasn't clear what Pietsch-Ng, 19, was doing when he fell through the ice. Calls to Oak Brook police, the agency investigating the incident, weren't returned.

Pietsch-Ng was taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital with severe hypothermia, according to a news release from the hospital.
