Learn about cabinets, make ornaments at ReStore

Habitat for Humanity of Northern Fox Valley's ReStore, 860 N. State St. (Route 31) in Elgin, will offer two workshops in December.

The first workshop, at 10 a.m. Dec. 1, will give children the opportunity to make Christmas ornaments with recycled materials at ReStore. Although it is geared toward children, anyone can join the fun.

Booksellers from the children's department at Barnes & Noble in West Dundee will be the creative facilitators for the ornament-making workshop.

The staff at Barnes & Noble regularly conducts story times and various craft activities for children in the community. At this workshop, participants will be using materials in ReStore to create the ornaments.

Rich and Dawn, co-hosts of the WIND 560-Am radio show "Your House Chicago," will be back again at 10 a.m. Dec. 8 for their next hands-on monthly workshop at ReStore.

The workshop will be "How to Repair/Refinish Kitchen Cabinets and Furniture," and true to form, Rich and Dawn will make it a fun, interactive and learning experience.

"Whether you are experienced in home remodeling or repair or are just getting started, these workshops offer something for everyone," said Deanna Davies, marketing coordinator for Habitat for Humanity of Northern Fox Valley.

"At each workshop, Rich and Dawn not only demonstrate proper technique, they also cover terminology. So, even if you aren't going to do the work yourself, this kind of information is invaluable when looking to hire a professional home remodeler."

In keeping with the workshop, ReStore is offering kitchen cabinets at drastically reduced prices.

Those interested in signing up for either workshop should call ReStore at (847) 742-9905 or stop by during open hours, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday to Friday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
