Leyden High Schools notes

Career Fair: District 212 is hosting the first annual Leyden Career Fair from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday for students, and from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for parents and the general public, in The Eagle's Wing located at West Leyden High School, 1000 N. Wolf Road, Northlake. The fair is free and open to the public with no preregistration required.

This event will feature local businesses and current business partners offering information on seasonal, part-time, and full-time employment. Those businesses include A-1 Tool Corporation, Brunswick Zone, Cosmetology Training Center, Duty Free Americas, E.J. Basler Company, Park District of Franklin Park, MSI Testing & Engineering Inc., Nu-Way Industries Inc., Primerica, Richard F. Payne Inc., Robert C. Weisheit Company, Sandvik Coromat Company, UPS, Washington Mutual, and West Suburban Special Recreation Association.

Representatives from Triton College will also be available to offer information on continuing education opportunities to those community members interested in pursuing a new career or learning new skills. Health, business, and technology careers will be featured.

In addition, parents will have the chance to investigate career planning for their children by learning how to utilize Bridges, the career planning tool Leyden students use to create a career path.

Yuletide Dinner: District 212's Olde English Yuletide Dinner will be at 7 p.m. Dec. 7 and 8 and at 4 p.m. Dec. 9, in the Fellowship Hall at the First United Methodist Church of Franklin Park, 9857 Schiller Blvd., Franklin Park.

This annual tradition is a favorite with the community, and once again features the Leyden Chamber Singers and the GraceNotes, two a cappella ensembles under the direction of Stacy Cunningham. The choruses will perform traditional musical selections such as "Carol of the Bells," "Masters in This Hall," and "Joy to the World."

In keeping with the festivities, the evening also features traditional medieval costumes, two Court Jesters, and an authentic Olde English dinner featuring Wassail cup, roast beef, and dessert.

Expunged records: In compliance with the Student Record Act of 1975, and the revised statutes of 1985, records for Leyden High School District 212 students who have received special education services, and who have graduated five years ago, will be expunged. This year that date includes students who graduated in 2002.

Only official transcripts and health records will be retained. The transcripts include grades, class rank, graduation date, grade level achieved, scores on college entrance exams, attendance records, and a record of release of permanent record information. The health record contains information on physical and dental exams.

Those who need copies sent to colleges are advised to contact the registrar. Parents and students who desire other materials retained in the record or copies of existing material must make a written request before Dec. 1.

Students honored:ŒThe following East Leyden High School students were honored at the Exceptional Eagle Breakfast Oct. 18 in the Little Theater at the school. The monthly breakfast is held to recognize students for their extraordinary effort, special achievements, and academic excellence. Parents and nominating teachers also are invited to attend.
