Palatine man dies in Long Grove crash
A Palatine man was killed Tuesday after he lost control of his car in Long Grove and set off a three-vehicle accident, police said.
Yefim Dymarskiy, 71, suffered head and chest injuries in the crash. Two other motorists were examined at the scene but did not require hospitalization, authorities said.
The crash occurred shortly before 11 a.m. on Route 53 at Robert Parker Coffin Road. Dymarskiy was headed east on Route 53 in a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu when the car crossed into oncoming traffic, Lake County sheriff's police Sgt. Christopher Thompson said.
The Malibu then hit a westbound 2001 Ford F-350 pickup truck, which drove off the road and was hit by a 2005 Volkswagen Jetta that had been following the truck, police said.
Carl Schero, 46, of Elmwood Park was driving the pickup truck. He told police he saw the Malibu coming at him and tried to swerve to avoid the crash but couldn't, Thompson said.
The driver of the Jetta, 36-year-old Paul Schmidt of Grayslake, also saw the Malibu cross into the westbound lanes but couldn't avoid the crash, either, Thompson said.
Dymarskiy was pronounced dead on the scene. Authorities were unsure why he lost control of his car.
Lake County Coroner Richard Keller said he had a fairly extensive medical history, which could've contributed to him losing control.
