Security guard accused of sexually abusing 15-year-old

A part-time security guard at Niles North High School is free on $50,000 bond after being accused of having sex for several months with a 15-year-old girl in Harwood Heights.

Authorities say 27-year-old Mark Mendez of Chicago was charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse on November 21 after he turned himself in.

Mendez is a civilian Police and Fire Department dispatcher in Skokie and has been placed on administrative leave. A spokesman at Niles North High School said Tuesday he was dismissed from his job as a special events security guard.

Harwood Heights Police Captain Mario Ricchio says Skokie police received an anonymous tip about two weeks ago that Mendez was having sex with the teenager. He said investigators interviewed the girl, who confirmed the relationship
