Student charged in Kaneland bomb threat
A 17-year-old student was arrested Tuesday in connection with a bomb threat called into Kaneland High School.
Victor Gutierrez, 17, of 709 Park St., Batavia, was arrested Tuesday afternoon and charged with a disorderly conduct, according to the Kane County sheriff's office.
Gutierrez was not a Kaneland student but took a class at the Fox Valley Career Center, a vocational school that pulls from southern Kane County schools based on the Kaneland campus.
Police believe Gutierrez called the office from inside the school Monday about 12:15 p.m. and made the threat, sheriff's Lt. Pat Gengler said.
Students were kept in their third block classes until school was dismissed at 2:30 p.m. Most after-school activities were canceled.
Teachers and administrators did a search of the building in the afternoon, and a larger search with officers and a K-9 unit was conducted after school.
Officials found no evidence to substantiate the threat.
Police do not believe anyone else was involved, Gengler said.
