Massive fire guts Elk Grove-area building

A multiple-tenant commercial building in Arlington Heights sustained about $1.5 million in damage after an early Monday morning blaze swept through several units at 2420 E. Oakton St.

Elk Grove Township Fire Department Chief Michael Nelson said 17 other departments involving 60 personnel responded at 12:45 a.m. to the two-alarm fire, which started at a graphics company and appears to be electrical in nature.

The fire, which also damaged an adjacent motorcycle customizing business, was put out around 2 a.m., authorities said. Officials with the Cook County sheriff's police, state fire marshal's office and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives assisted in the investigation.

No injuries were reported.
