Buffalo Wild Wings lands location in Lombard
A new development under construction along Roosevelt Road in Lombard is expanding to make room for a Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant.
Village trustees Thursday unanimously approved a request to increase V-Land Development's commercial project at Highland Avenue by 400 square feet.
In the coming weeks, Lombard officials also plan to consider changes at a nearby shopping center along Roosevelt.
"We have a lot of moving pieces," said William Heniff, senior planner for the village.
Trustees have signed off on requests for a liquor license and an outdoor eating area so construction of the Buffalo Wild Wings can proceed.
Once built, the restaurant will be part of a 20,000-square-foot retail center that will include a Chase Bank, CD1 Price Cleaners and Hair Cuttery salon.
Scott Nicholson, V-Land's vice president, said some building permits still are needed for the retail center.
Buffalo Wild Wings hopes to open at the end of March. Other tenants are planning to open in April, Nicholson said.
Meanwhile, plan commissioners on Monday are expected to review about developments plans for a stretch of Roosevelt that's east of Highland.
The Sports Authority and Marshall's stores, which have opened new locations at Yorktown Center, will be closing.
Hobby Lobby, which is now located near the intersection of Main Street and Roosevelt, is slated to move into the Sports Authority space. Harbor Freight Tools is expected to take over the Marshall's site, Heniff said.
Starbucks is planning to replace its existing kiosk with a sit-down coffee shop nearby in the same complex.
And Roundheads Pizza sports bar and grill, which has a location in Downers Grove, is expected to move into the shuttered Pizzeria Uno, Heniff said.
"We have some movement here, and that's good," he said.
In addition, the village board is expected to vote next month on Centrum Properties' annexation agreement and other plans for the former Lombard Lanes property.
The plan commission has recommended approval. Initial plans call for a bank, a drive-through fast-food eatery and, possibly, a storage center at the rear of the property.
