Briefs: Women's holiday luncheon
The St. Charles Chamber of Commerce Women's Business Council will have its annual holiday luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Dec. 6 at Pheasant Run Resort, 4051 E. Main St. Admission is $25 for members and $35 for guests. Instead of exchanging gifts, participants this year are being asked to bring donations of gift cards from Target, Wal-Mart, Meijer or Jewel-Osco. Nonperishable food item and cash donations also will be accepted. All items will go to local nonprofit groups that help children and families during the holidays. United Way gives thanks
Fox Valley United Way will sponsor a Giving Thanks Gala for individuals and organizations that have supported its activities from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at North Island Center, 23 E. Galena Blvd., in downtown Aurora. The evening includes two performances of Aurora's Got Talent from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and from 8 to 9:30 p.m. upstairs in the Copley Theatre. Admission is $5. Combat Internet bullying
Learn about Internet social networks, cyber bullying and sexual predator identification during a presentation at 7 p.m. Tuesday at South Elgin High School. Phil Morris, manager of technology for the Kane County Regional Office of Education, will offer a presentation on social networking sites such as MySpace and Facebook as well as chat rooms where sexual predators often go to meet prospective victims.
Tribute acts at Arcada
Tribute acts to Neil Diamond and Elvis Presley will team up Dec. 14 at the Arcada Theater, 105 E. Main St., St. Charles. The concert A Diamond and A King is set for 8 p.m. It will feature Denny Diamond and Rick Saucedo performing Neil Diamond and Presley music, respectively, with a 12-piece band. Pride nominees sought:
The Downtown St. Charles Partnership is accepting nominations for its 2007 Downtown Pride Awards. Nominees must: Be members of the partnership or located in the city's historic district; have demonstrated "initiative and leadership" on a project that had "significant impact" on downtown revitalization; made a major investment of time, money or talent; and support the partnership's official goals.
