Thanks for support at Kick-a-thon

Oct. 12 was a perfect day for a football game. It was also a perfect day for the 14th annual St. Charles Drill Teams Kick-a-thon.

The early morning hours started out with Fox News in the Morning's Sonda Solarte featuring St. Charles East and North high schools as her School Shout-Out and wearing the Kick-a-thon T-shirt.

Then Lisa Dent and Ramblin' Ray from US99 shared time throughout their morning show letting their listeners know that once again the community of St. Charles was gearing up to help "kick" cancer. With the slogan "Help for Today, Hope for Tomorrow" setting the tone for the one St. Charles fundraiser which unites both high schools, months of planning were about to unfold.

The north end of the St. Charles East Football Stadium was transformed all day long into a sea of orange and blue, dotted with Kick-a-thon banners. By evening the scene was set and the arrival of Lisa Dent as the MC was anxiously anticipated as many of the 117 community kickers, 73 drill team members and their families enjoyed the tailgating festivities.

This year's kick line included St. Charles Mayor Don DeWitte. Tom Wright, COO of Delnor Community Hospital and Chris Woelffer, president of STC Capital Bank, were just two representatives of this year's 22 corporate sponsors. Joining the kick line for the first time was Superintendent Don Schlomann who linked arms with Assistant Superintendents Ron Knapik and John Baird together with principals from all of District 303 elementary, middle and high schools.

D303 showed St. Charles residents the true meaning of "community" through their donations in support of American Cancer Society and Living Well Cancer Resource Center .

Though the final numbers are not in and donations can still be made at www.kick-a-thon.org, this year's event appears to be another wonderful success. The Kick-a-thon Committee credits the active involvement of school district 303 together with the corporate sponsors and as always the tremendous support of over 100 community leaders, businesses and drill team families with the overwhelming success of the 14th Annual Kick-a-thon.

The 2007 Kick-a-thon Committee extends its gratitude to the community of St. Charles and its continued support of the Kick-a-thon and what it represents. By teaming together to help "kick" cancer we can make a difference.
