Psychologist to discuss Alzheimer's
Richard Taylor, Ph.D., will present "Living with Alzheimer's: One Patient's View" at 11 a.m. today at the Des Plaines Public Library. He will discuss his personal experiences of living with Alzheimer's disease.
Early stage patients, their families and caregivers are encouraged to attend. Copies of Taylor's book, "Alzheimer's from the Inside Out," will be available for purchase. Registration is required.
Taylor, a retired psychologist, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's at age 61. He will discuss the difficult issues facing patients and those who care about them. How does one deal with the loss of independence, personality changes, communication difficulties and changes in relationships? The program offers insight to those issues and others, along with comfort to those facing the challenges of the disease.
"Alzheimer's from the Inside Out" is a collection of 85 essays written by Taylor, offering a glimpse into the little-understood world of people living with Alzheimer's. Taylor shares accounts of his slow transformation and deterioration to what has become his new reality.
