Drop-In Storytimes: Storytimes for children ages 3-5 will be held from 10 to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays and 2 to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesdays. Storytimes for 2-year-olds will be held from 10:45-11:15 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Stories & More: At 4 p.m. today, the library will host stories, crafts and related activities for children ages 5-7. (R-YS)

Foreign Language Film: A free feature-length foreign film will be shown at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Call (847) 376-2841 for the film title.

Art Exhibit: Thomas Penna will display oil paintings in the third floor magazine reading area throughout November.

Morning Book Discussion: Readers' Services Manager Roberta Johnson leads a discussion of "Eat, Pray, Love," by Elizabeth Gilbert at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Copies of the book are available at the Readers' Services Desk on the third floor. Register online at www.dppl.org, under "Events," or in person at the Registration Desk. The discussion will take place in the third floor Heritage Room.

Drop-In Chess: Children at all levels can meet other players, learn strategies to improve their chess game from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Carnegie Library: The library will host "The Carnegie Library: Treasures on the Illinois Landscape" at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The lecture by Annette Baldwin will discuss Scottish immigrant Andrew Carnegie, one of the captains of industry in 19th century America, who believed in giving away his enormous wealth and consequently funded the building of more than 2,000 public libraries. Thursday Evening Book Discussion: Readers' Services Assistant Laura Adler leads an adult book discussion of "Enrique's Journey," by Sonia Nazario at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 8. Story Explorers: Kids in grades 3-5 will get together at 4 p.m. Nov. 8 to participate in theme-based activities including stories, crafts and a snack. (R-YS)

PAWS for a Story: Come to the library and read a story to a book-loving dog. Bring a favorite book or choose from our selection. Reading sessions are 15 minutes long and held on Tuesdays from 6:30-8 p.m., through Nov. 20. (R-YS)

Young readers may sign up for a 15-minute session for five consecutive weeks and practice their reading skills. Participants may register at the Youth Services Desk. A consent form must be signed by a parent or guardian.

Ongoing Book Sale: Friends of the Library sponsor an ongoing book sale on the first floor of the library during regular library hours.

E-mail and Internet Practice Sessions: A librarian will assist with registering for e-mail, using e-mail, basic Internet searching or finding items in the library catalog. Call (847) 376-2841 for dates and times.
