Campton Hills is limited by tax cap

What is the real agenda regarding the anti-Campton Hills Movement?

Recently the Illinois Department of Revenue spokesperson in Springfield, Katherine Ridgway, declared that Campton Hills is regulated by the Property Tax Extension Limitation Law, or tax cap, which prevents the municipality from raising any taxes without voter approved referendum.

The supporters of the village have been saying this for the past two years, yet the developers and attorneys continue to spread the fear that unless you dissolve the village, your taxes will go up. Why are they so concerned about our tax bill?

Do you think the supporters of the village want to pay higher taxes? I would certainly not support a referendum for new taxes.

The fact is, the village gives us local control of zoning -- which affects our schools, which affects our taxes. Local control of the zoning is what concerns the developer.

Before you buy into the scare campaign, get the facts. Call Springfield, or stop by the village office in Campton Center to get the real facts -- don't be fooled by amateurish scare tactics. Your taxes cannot be raised by the village. Period.
