Moment of silence just a waste of time

I am an eighth grader at a middle school in Mundelein. I really don't like the moment of silence that we have before school starts. I don't even use the moment of silence for anything. When I look around the room during the moment of silence, I just see a lot of people doing their homework. I think this means that a lot of other people don't use the moment of silence for contemplation or anything spiritual either.
