Teen pleads guilty to bringing guns to school

PONTIAC -- A 16-year-old boy pleaded guilty Wednesday to charges he brought six handguns to his central Illinois high school with the intent of selling them to another student.

Sean Sullivan of Odell pleaded guilty to 12 counts of unlawful use of a weapon during a bench trial in Livingston County. He faced two charges for each gun he brought to Pontiac High School on Aug. 28, one for having it on a school bus and one for having it on school property.

Earlier this month, Sullivan testified at the trial of Martin Huerta Jr. that he had brought the guns to school to sell them to Huerta. A jury convicted Huerta, 15, of Saunemin, of two weapons charges. He is scheduled to be sentenced next month.

Both teens were charged as adults.

The discovery of the unloaded handguns in Sullivan's locker prompted police and school officials to lock down Pontiac High as well as five other schools in the area.

Sullivan faces up to three years in the Illinois Department of Corrections when he is sentenced Jan. 2.
