Grayslake board to vote on paving roads in Stony Ridge neighborhood

Grayslake village board members will be asked to approve an agreement that would bring infrastructure to a mostly undeveloped subdivision.

Village board trustees will decide whether to authorize a final paving of public streets at the Stony Ridge subdivision on Grayslake's far north side. The board will gather at 7 p.m. today at village hall, 10 S. Seymour Ave.

Grayslake Assistant Village Administrator Matt Formica said about a mile or so of streets will be involved. He said it should take about two weeks to have the final layer of pavement completed.

"I think we want to get it done as quickly as possible," Formica said.

Final approval for the Stony Ridge subdivision was granted to Kathcon Development Corp. of Antioch about five years ago. Thirty-eight custom homes ranging from $500,000 to $1 million were planned, but only one has been constructed so far.

Saying they became tired of the lack of progress on public improvements that were supposed to be made, Grayslake officials decided to use $400,000 of Kathcon money posted as a bond of sorts with the village to complete the work.

First up will be the final street paving at Stony Ridge, near Rollins Road and Sheldon Drive. Officials also said sidewalks, street lamps and other promised public improvements have yet to be delivered.

Kathcon development director Greg Miller has said village government has been a source of his problems. For example, he said, development was delayed by at least two years because the village forced him to locate a water main to tap into after being led to believe some homes could start on wells.

Village officials said a local ordinance required Kathcon to complete the public improvements within two years of winning approval for the homes in 2002.
