Casino's appeal fails
An Illinois appellate court has upheld a lower court ruling related to the Illinois Gaming Board's 2005 revocation of a license for the Emerald Casino to operate in Rosemont. Owners of the casino license and the village, who have been fighting unsuccessfully with the gaming board since 1999 to open the casino, had appealed a ruling in Cook County circuit court, one of two fronts on which litigation has been proceeding. Monday's ruling against Emerald and the village by the 2nd Appellate Court follows one last May by the 4th Appellate Court that also went against Emerald and the village.

Police said they arrested 40-year-old Lamour Holloway Tuesday as she put the package in a vehicle outside her workplace. The marijuana was valued at more than $100,000. As a clerk, Holloway earns $34,000 a year. Records indicate she's been employed by the public defender's office for 10 years.
New way to pay bills
Dennis Rouleau, the manager of Chicago Executive Airport in Wheeling, will be working on a new procedure for paying bills. Members of the airport board on Wednesday said they'd like to see some bills before checks are actually mailed out. Other routine ones, such as for electricity, can be handled in the regular way, with the board seeing invoices after the fact. Rouleau said he will come back at the next board meeting with an idea of what matters can be handled without prior board approval.
