LSU rolls 58-10, should go to No. 1
With No. 1 in its sights, LSU had it easy for a change.
Matt Flynn passed for 237 and 3 touchdown Saturday night led No. 2 LSU to a comfortable 58-10 triumph over visiting Louisiana Tech that could lift the Tigers back to the top of the national rankings.
Each of the Tigers' 3 previous victories -- over Florida, Auburn and Alabama -- were marked by late-game heroics that narrowly preserved the Tigers' national championship hopes.
They needed all of those comebacks, given their blown lead at Kentucky, which led to an overtime loss and an end to their brief stint at No. 1.
With Illinois upsetting No. 1 Ohio State earlier in the day, LSU stood to gain from putting this weekend's contest out of reach early and wasn't expected to get much resistance.
In 17 previous meetings between LSU and Louisiana Tech spanning more than a century, the Bulldogs (4-6) had beaten LSU only once, and that was back in 1904. LSU (9-1) was favored to win this one by about 5 touchdowns, a margin they held midway through the third quarter.
Flynn's scoring strikes included a career-long 71-yarder to Terrance Tolliver, which was also a career long reception for the freshman receiver.
Maryland 42, Boston College 35: Judging by their performance against crippled Maryland, it's hard to believe Boston College was unbeaten and ranked second in the nation just two weeks ago.
Playing against a struggling team mired in a three-game losing streak, the No. 8 Eagles yielded 472 yards and 5 touchdowns and fell to the Terrapins (5-5, 2-4 ACC).
The nation's top-ranked rushing defense (58 yards per game) surrendered a season-high 135 yards, even though Maryland was without its leading ground gainer.
Had they not lost one week ago to Florida State, the Eagles (8-2, 4-2) probably would have been playing for a chance to be No. 1 because top-ranked Ohio State lost earlier Saturday.
Kansas 43, Oklahoma St. 28: Marcus Henry had a career-high 199 yards receiving and 3 touchdowns, Brandon McAnderson ran for 142 yards and 2 scores, and No. 5 Kansas stayed unbeaten with a victory over host Oklahoma State.
Kansas (6-0 Big 12) moved to 10-0 for the first time since it finished the 1899 season, and is now the only unbeaten team left in the six conferences with an automatic bid to the BCS.
Oklahoma 52, Baylor 21: DeMarco Murray scored 4 touchdowns, 1 on a 91-yard kickoff return, as No. 4 Oklahoma beat visiting Baylor.
Oklahoma (9-1, 5-1 Big 12 Conference) has not lost to Baylor (3-8, 0-7) in 17 meetings between the teams. Baylor lost its seventh straight amid reports that its coach, Guy Morriss, would be replaced at the end of the season.
Missouri 40, Texas A&M 26: Chase Daniel threw for 352 yards and 3 touchdowns, and the seventh-ranked Tigers pulled away late against the visiting Aggies and embattled coach Dennis Franchione.
Missouri (9-1, 5-1 Big 12) reached 9 victories for the first time since 1969 and only the fourth time in school history.
Texas A&M (6-5, 3-4) has lost three straight to top-10 opponents.
Arizona State 24, UCLA 20: Keegan Herring rushed for 116 yards, including a 71-yard touchdown, and Rudy Carpenter threw for 200 yards and another score to lead ninth-ranked Arizona St. (9-1, 6-1 Pac-10) over host UCLA (5-5, 4-3).
Georgia 45, Auburn 20: Donning black jerseys for the first time in the modern era, Matthew Stafford threw a pair of touchdown passes and Knowshon Moreno broke 100 yards rushing for the fourth straight game, leading No. 10 Georgia (8-2, 5-2 SEC) past 18th-ranked Auburn (7-4, 4-3) in Athens, Ga.
