Iraq -- Can We Have Peace? Amaal V.E. Tokars, author of "America & Iraq: Seduced by Fear," will reflect on the possibilities of peace from 7 to 8 p.m. today in the library community rooms. Tokars holds citizenship in Canada, Iraq and the United States, which gives her a powerful perspective few can have. Sponsored in collaboration with the Fox Valley Citizens for Peace and Justice. Refreshments will be served. Book sales and signing will follow the program. Registration is required.

Honoring Our Veterans: The library will show two World War II movies, directed by Clint Eastwood, in November in the Community Rooms.

The R-rated "Flags of Our Fathers" is based on the best-selling book by James Bradley and Ron Powers. It tells the stories of the six men who raised the American flag. The movie will be shown from 6:15 to 8:45 p.m. Thursday. Those under age 17 must be accompanied by a parent. An introduction will be given by local veteran Gordon Schnulle, who fought at Iwo Jima.

The R-rated movie "Letters from Iwo Jima" will be shown from 1 to 4 p.m. Nov. 10. Taken from actual letters, this intense war drama portrays the point of view of the Japanese soldiers. It will feature a discussion led by veteran Schnulle. Those under age 17 must be accompanied by a parent. Refreshments will be served to celebrate the U.S. Marine Corp's 232th anniversary.

Volunteens: Volunteens are student volunteers in seventh to 10th grade in the library Youth Center. They work one hour per week and do a variety of tasks such as using our laminator and die-cut machines. Sessions fill up quickly, so plan ahead if you need to complete a required number of hours. The next session begins the week of Jan. 14. Students have three time slots to choose from: Mondays from 4 to 5 p.m., Thursdays from 7 to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 2 to 3 p.m. Register starting Nov. 1 online at www.gailborden.info/teen/volunteen_app.htm or in the Youth Center. Second Sunday Concert Series: Violinist Cyrus Forough will bring the same intensity and passion to the Second Sunday concert that he has to royal and international audiences when he performs at 2 p.m. Sunday at the library. His virtuoso technique and elegant manner have won the admiration of fellow violinists and classical music lovers throughout the world. Free tickets are available at the Greeter or second floor information desks.

The Wolves of Isle Royale: Rolf O. Peterson, renowned author and wildlife ecologist from Michigan Technological University, will visit from 7 to 8 p.m. Nov. 14. For more than 30 years, Peterson has studied the wolves of Isle Royale National Park in Lake Superior. He has written about the relationship between the wolf and moose populations on this isolated island. Discover how his studies' results impact you today. Photographs enhance his presentation. Book sales and signing follow the program. Refreshments will be served. Registration is required.

Guitar Hero tournament: Think your mad guitar skills are the best? Try your hand at PlayStation 2's Guitar Hero and see if you can beat the competition. The tournament takes place from 2 to 4 p.m. Nov. 19 in Community Rooms A and B. Prizes will be awarded to the top players. Spectators are welcome.
