Briefs: Shopping fundraiser
Crate and Barrel of Geneva Commons and Fox Valley Volunteer Hospice are teaming up to host a holiday shopping fundraiser from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday. For a $25 donation, shoppers will receive a $10 Crate and Barrel gift card with the remaining $15 directly benefiting Fox Valley Volunteer Hospice. Bridge closed tonight
The Wilson Street bridge in Batavia will be closed from 9 p.m. to midnight today to move pieces of steel in place for the north half of the new bridge deck. It also will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. either Wednesday or Thursday for the pouring of concrete for the final bridge pier. The exact date will be announced by Monday.
Watch hoops on Web
Fans can watch the West Aurora High School basketball team play Naperville Central live on their computers beginning at 7:15 tonight. The link is on the district's Web site, www.sd129.org. The game can also be heard on WBIG 1280-AM.
Bazaar at school
Hoover-Wood Elementary School Parent-Teacher Organization is hosting a home party vendor sale, "Holiday Express," from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the school gymnasium, 1640 Wagner Road, Batavia. House wares, beauty, home decor and other vendors will be there. Chair massages will be offered. There's free babysitting. Gift cards to national retailers will also be sold. Gifts can be wrapped for a fee.
Hear Swedish singing:
The Swedish American Children's Choir of St. Charles will perform holiday songs in English and Swedish Saturday at its ninth annual Swedish Christmas and St. Lucia Festival. The festival is planned for 4 p.m. at Hosanna! Lutheran Church, 37W130 Crane Road, St. Charles. The event will include appearances by the 2007 St. Lucia queen, Irene Kaar of Geneva, as well as a Swedish accordionist, soprano and pianist. There also will be Swedish food available. Admission is $12 for adults and $6 for children ages 6 to 12. Reservations are required. Call (630) 414-9700.
