Aurora police seek help in identifying suspect

Aurora police are seeking the public's help in identifying a man accused of ripping off a customer at a Sears department store.

The man approached a 29-year-old Aurora woman who was shopping for a new television Oct. 14 at the Westfield Fox Valley store, police said Wednesday.

He introduced himself as an employee and told her the TV she was interested in cost $1,566, police said.

After the woman gave him the cash, he told her the store's registers were out of order and gave her a hand-written receipt, police said.

He then told her to meet him by the loading dock but never showed, police said.

The man was not wearing a uniform and wasn't stationed behind a register, spokesman Dan Ferrelli said.

Sears authorities told police the man has staged similar ruses at other stores in the Chicago area.

The man is described as about 5 feet, 9 inches tall, 170 pounds, with short black curly hair, brown eyes and crooked teeth.

Anyone with information on his identity is asked to call police at (630) 801-6712 or Aurora Crime Stoppers at (630) 892-1000.

Callers to Crime Stoppers may remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to his arrest.

Aurora police say they need the public's help to identify this man.
