Serious irony in try to impede rights

I would like to commend McHenry County College President Walter Packard for upholding the rights of the Minutemen to rent a building for a seminar.

This is about right and wrong. Think about the irony here.

The Hispanic group at the collage is protesting a group that is trying to educate people on the problems of illegal immigration, keyword "illegal," while groups of illegal immigrants are protesting and demanding their rights here in the United States.

What is wrong with that picture? The only rights that non-Americans have is to come into our country legally. Keyword "legally."

They have the right to go through the process to become legal Americans. They have the right to assimilate in our country once they become Americans. That means to become a part of our country, contribute to it and to enjoy the benefits of being an American, not leaving your country to come here and demand your rights.

Why would you come to a new country and try to make it like your own if you were unhappy with the one you left? That doesn't mean to forget your natural heritage because you shouldn't. But if you come to America, be an American.

Learn our language, which is English, and be proud of it like so many other immigrants before you. Be grateful that people of other cultures are not protesting the special privileges being given to Hispanics such as signs and literature printed in English and Spanish but not Russian, Polish, Asian or East Indian to name a few.

Instead of demanding your rights, be appreciative of the opportunities that you have been given here.
