Clothing store security guard fatally shot
A clothing store security guard was fatally shot during a robbery on Chicago's Southwest Side.
Howard Long, 22, of Chicago was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn on Friday, according to hospital spokeswoman Deborah Song.
Authorities said Long, who was unarmed, was near the entrance of Get M Girls Apparel about 12:15 p.m. when three men came through the door. One man aimed a gun at Long while the other two allegedly stole items from the store.
Long grabbed the gunman and was shot once during a struggle and multiple times as the gunman exited the store, police said.
Chicago authorities are reviewing surveillance footage from the store.
No one was in custody Saturday in connection with the shooting, police officer John Henry said.
"This is an ongoing and open investigation," Henry said.
The store's owner Eric Henderson, who was also Long's friend, said Long had worked at the store for about eight months.
"I'm hurt," Henderson said in a story posted Saturday on the Chicago Tribune's Web site. "I'm (torn) up inside. You see everything taken away from you in minutes. Your investments and, more importantly, your friend."
