Watch out for deer
Motorists are reminded that deer are more active this time of year and fall. The deer are seeking food and mates and pose the greatest risk of accidents. Last year, there were 25,491 deer-vehicle collisions in Illinois. Lake County last year was fifth in Illinois with 588 deer-vehicle accidents. Motorists should be particularly cautious at dusk and dawn and be aware that several others may follow a single deer across a road. Motorists also are advised to avoid swerving to avoid a deer and instead slow to a stop. Drivers should flash their headlights from bright to dim or honk their horn to move deer along.
