1Q losses narrow for Sanfilippo

ELGIN -- John B. Sanfilippo & Son said Monday its first quarter of fiscal 2008 net loss was about $3.5 million, or 33 cents per share, compared to a net loss of about $4.8 million, or 46 cents per share for the same period last year. Net sales were about $132.8 million, compared to $133 million in the same period last year. Total pounds shipped to customers in the current quarter also decreased by 6.3 percent compared to a year ago. The decline in net sales and pounds shipped to customers were the resulted of decreased almond and walnut sales.
