Resale shop to roll out holiday items at open house
Barrington's House of Hope resale shop wants everyone to know the holiday season is right around the corner.
With that in mind, the store is holding its annual Holiday Open House between 6 and 9 p.m. Wednesday. The event is a way for the store to unveil its new selection of holiday merchandise, furniture and collectibles.
Now in its fourth year, it also will mark the debut of House of Hope's newly expanded retail space at the Market Center Shops in downtown Barrington. Officials said the new store, which features new and vintage furniture, holiday treasures, clothing, toys and other collectibles, is twice the size of the former location.
All of the proceeds raised in the store go to benefit Project Hope, a ministry of St. Anne's Catholic Church.
The open house will include free refreshments and door prize drawings.
House of Hope provides emergency assistance to area families in crisis. For more information, call (847) 756-4673.
Season's greetings: In keeping with the holiday theme, the Rotary club of Barrington is now accepting orders for poinsettias and wreaths for Christmas.
The poinsettias are available in different styles, as well as in red, pink or white.
All proceeds benefit local Rotary charitable projects.
In its 47-year history, the Rotary Club of Barrington has raised thousands of dollars to benefit local and international charities.
Projects include annual college and vocational scholarships for Barrington High School students, the high school's Field of Dreams, the annual Fourth of July Festival and the restoration of Bakers Lake Shoreline and bird sanctuary.

A helping hand: There is a new support group forming in Barrington.
A group of parents who have children with special needs in Barrington Area District 220 are starting a group to lend a hand to other parents experiencing some of the same issues.
The group, called BASK -- Barrington Area Special Kids -- will hold its first meeting at 7 p.m. Monday in Room 2B at the Barrington Library, 505 N. Northwest Highway.
