Cubs fan convention sells out in minutes

It took just 10 minutes, but Cubs fans and resellers helped to sell out tickets for the 23rd Cubs Convention in January.

Tickets went on sale at 10 a.m. Wednesday through www.cubs.com, tickets.com and by phone, and the 2,000 convention passes were sold out in 10 minutes, according to Katelyn Thrall, a media relations representative with the Cubs.

The three-day weekend convention at the Hilton Chicago, 720 S. Michigan Ave., will be held Jan. 18-20, 2008.

By 11 a.m., the resale market was already up and running as 38 sellers on Stubhub.com were offering the $50 tickets for sale at prices from $89.99, many more at between $100-$150, and even a few sets between $200 and $999.99.

The convention offers autograph/photo opportunities with current and past Cubs players, question and answer sessions with team officials as well as memorabilia and vendor booths.

Rooms at the Hilton are sold out for Convention weekend, but fans are encouraged to check back for cancellations or availability by calling (312) 922-4400.

Proceeds from the Convention benefit Cubs Care. The 2007 Cubs Convention raised more than $300,000.
