Briefs: Holiday ornaments for sale
For the 17th year, Christmas in St. Charles collectible ornaments are now available. The 3-inch glass ornaments are silver with blue lettering and feature an image of the old Mount St. Mary's Academy, known later as Valley Lutheran High School. They are available for $10 each at several local businesses, including the St. Charles History Museum Gift Shop, 215 E. Main St. Ornaments from years past also are available for $15 each or $125 for a complete set. All proceeds benefit the St. Charles Heritage Center, which runs the history museum. High-tech donation
The Greater St. Charles Education Foundation recently announced the donation of more than $70,000 to buy mobile technology carts for schools in St. Charles Unit District 303. All 12 of the district's elementary schools this fall will receive a cart that contains a camera, laptop computer, LCD projector, VCR, DVD player and speakers. The foundation also has committed to buy five additional carts for the middle and high schools in the next two years.
Traffic sting nets arrests
St. Charles police officers made two drunken driving arrests and wrote 10 speeding tickets during a two-week traffic safety campaign that ended Sunday. Officers also arrested two people on warrants and wrote tickets for two moving violations, nine seat belt violations, one child safety restraint violation and 16 other miscellaneous violations. The campaign was part of the state's "You Drink, You Drive, You Lose" program.
Boys' Night Out
A Fox Valley medical clinic will have a Boys' Night Out health and wellness conference from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Hampton Inn and Suites, 2423 Bushwood Drive, Aurora. The free event, conducted by Dreyer Medical Clinic, is open to the public and will feature four physicians who specialize in sleep disorders, cancer treatment, joint conditions and prostate cancer. 'James Brown' at Arcada
The Arcada Theater in St. Charles will replicate a legendary James Brown concert Nov. 16. The show will include a seven-piece band, Go-Go girls and headliner Ty Stone re-enacting Brown's 1963 "Live at the Apollo" performance, which was made into a record.
