U-46, police team up for school safety discussion

On Thursday, join the Elgin Area School District U-46 Citizens' Advisory Council for a special presentation on school safety.

The district's new safety coordinator John Heiderscheidt will discuss how the district is working to keep your child safe at school as well as how it responds in emergency or crises situations. The community is encouraged to attend the meeting; translation into Spanish will be provided.

Heiderscheidt will be joined by a representative from the Elgin Police Department's gang unit who will address how local law enforcement works with the district to provide a safe environment in and around school.

This will be a great time to learn how the district is working to ensure the academic success of your child by providing a safe and helpful learning environment. The program also will include a question-and-answer time.

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the library of Elgin High School, 1200 Maroon Drive in Elgin.

The Citizens' Advisory Council is a group of volunteer parents and citizens who live within the district that advises and assists the board of education and school administration in the ongoing effort to provide the best education for all students within U-46.
