Church to hold service, pie fest Wednesday
Light of Christ Lutheran Church will hold Thanksgiving Eve worship at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church, 100 Hanson Road in Algonquin.
The Rev. Kendall Koenig is known for making fabulous apple pies. If you would like to have the opportunity to taste the pastor's specialty and other Light of Christ members' pies, join them for the annual Thanksgiving Eve Pie Fest after the 5 and 7 p.m. services.
A variety of pies will be served by the youth of the church after each service.
"This is one of the great traditions at Light of Christ and always leaves me a warm feeling," said church member Michelle Hippler.
Thanksgiving seems to be a time when many people begin to think of those less fortunate. Many serve in soup kitchens, help stock shelves at the food pantry or share a Thanksgiving dinner with a stranger.
An important focus of the "Pie Fest" will be assisting those community members who are not as fortunate. Bring canned goods and non-perishables, which will be donated to the local food pantry.
The 5 p.m. service will feature the Children's Choir and the New Hope band, led by Melody Kuphal and the 7 p.m. will include the adult choir. Jane McMullen, director of music, will lead the choir. The senior pastor will deliver the message.
