Crash shuts down portion of Arlington Heights Road

Northbound lanes of Arlington Heights Road in Elk Grove Village have reopened this morning after a crash that halted traffic during the morning rush.

A driver slammed his car into a tree just after 7 a.m., and the Elk Grove Fire Department had to use heavy extrication equipment to remove the roof of his car and free him from the wreckage, said Lt. Michael Harris.

The driver, thought to be in his early 20s, was taken to the hospital with a broken leg and was conscious the whole time, Harris said.

He believed there were no other cars involved, and it was unclear what caused the motorist to veer off the roadway.
