OB/GYN residency program at Stroger Hospital criticized

The obstetrics and gynecology residency program at Stroger Hospital should be stripped of accreditation because the institution doesn't provide enough clinical experience or medical oversight to young doctors specializing in the fields.

Interim medical director Doctor Brad Langer says the hospital got the recommendation last week from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.

The interim chief of the Cook County Bureau of Health Doctor Robert Simon says Stroger Hospital will file an appeal with the medical group.

Simon said he believes the hospital can fix the problems pointed out by the accreditation council by adding more senior doctors to supervise obstetrics and gynecology residents and by offering more administrative support to the residency program.
