2 jockeys injured in spill at Hawthorne
Two jockies, Randy Meier and Lyndie Wade, were injured during the running of Hawthorne's third race on Friday.
Chestnut Gold, ridden by Wade, broke down coming out of the far turn, according to Hawthorne officials. Arazi Lady, with Meier in the saddle, appeared to trip over Chestnut Gold, tossing Meier to the ground.
Both riders were transported to Loyola Hospital in Maywood. Wade was unconscious at the time, and Meier appeared to have injured his left shoulder.
More details are expected to be released later today.
