Briefs: Judson marks holidays

Judson University is inviting the community to Christmas by Candlelight, a traditional concert and dinner. The event starts at 5:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Lindner Campus Commons, 1151 N. State St., Elgin. The concert, which will include Tim Zimmerman and the King's Bass, will be at the Herrick Chapel on the school's campus. Elgin lights city tree

Elgin hosts the city tree-lighting ceremony at 5 p.m. Saturday in Festival Park, near the Grand Victoria Casino. Santa Claus will be on hand for the event with Mayor Ed Schock and the city council. The Civic Center Plaza City Skate will be open for the day with free skate rentals from 11 a.m. 9 p.m. There will also be a reading of "Polar Express" at 5:30 p.m. at Festival Park and sleigh rides from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Grove Avenue will be closed between Prairie and Lake streets from 3 to 8 p.m.

Change your life at library

The Dundee Township Public Library will host Alesa Burbach, a life coach based in Elgin, for a seminar called Change Your Thinking, Change Your Life at 7 tonight in the library's meeting room. Burbach will explore ways to identify beliefs that limit one's life, then teach participants an empowering process for making deliberate choices to produce more satisfying results in life.
