Bowling fundraiser to raise awareness of rape
The Lake County Council Against Sexual Assault's Real Kids Creating A Rape-Free Environment group and Bertrand Bowling Alley will team to hold the second annual teen costume and bowling party from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Bertrand Bowling Alley, 2616 Washington St., Waukegan.
With the theme "Be Creative," this year's costume bowling party fundraiser offers teens the chance to win prizes by coming up with unique costumes. Guests also can enjoy unlimited pizza, soda, bowling, music and fun.
The event also encourages young people to think of creative ways to help create a rape-free environment for themselves and their friends.
To participate, ask family, friends and neighbors to make a donation for each game of bowling you complete at the event. There is a $25 pledge minimum per bowler, and prizes will be awarded to teens who achieve various levels of sponsor donations. Or pay a $20 entrance fee at the door. All participants qualify for chances to win raffle prizes and the best costume contest.
Last year's event drew more than 100 attendees and raised more than $1,000 to support the organization's countywide child and teen assault prevention programs.
All proceeds from Real Kids C.A.R.E. events go toward providing free services to victims of sexual violence.
Real Kids C.A.R.E. is a LaCASA program organized by youth volunteers with supervision from LaCASA's staff to raise awareness about sexual assault, particularly in the teen community, and to support LaCASA's healing and anti-violence mission. The program provides teens with leadership opportunities and activities with a sense of purpose.
