Sarto right, others should follow him
I've been reading with some interest the news accounts of what has been going on in Carpentersville in regard to the illegal immigration issue. It seems both local newspapers have been pretty tough on the Village President Bill Sarto. But as I've read and watched what has been going on, it seems to me that Bill Sarto has been right in everything.
Sarto was the one who was telling everyone that immigration matters were up to the federal government, not local government. The judge in the Pennsylvania case said the same thing.
Then there was the flap over whether or not Trustee Paul Humpfer's wife requesting and being granted an order of protection was a personal matter or something that deserved to be investigated. At the time, Sarto was asking that an investigation take place. He was saying statistics show those who abuse their spouse often continue to do so. Now Humpfer has been charged with four new counts of domestic battery.
Just this past week, a $30 million lawsuit was filed in federal court in Chicago against the village of Carpentersville, naming two paramedics negligent for failing to transport a Hispanic baby to the hospital. The plaintiffs are saying the village caused an atmosphere of discrimination to occur against Hispanics.
It's my observation that Sarto knows what he is talking about and it's high time for the newspapers and the public to listen to him. Sarto has been leading. Others have not been following.
