FAA investigating hard landing at O'Hare

Federal safety investigators are probing a hard landing at O'Hare International Airport this week that sent a jet careening off a runway, injuring two people.

A United Airlines passenger and a crew member received "minor injuries" on the Airbus 320 when it hit the runway too hard at 8:34 p.m. Tuesday, said airline spokesman Jeff Covick.

Flight 628 from Seattle was carrying 122 passengers and five crew members when it partially left the runway after landing, officials say. The plane eventually returned to the runway and was able to taxi to its gate, albeit with a blown tire and damaged engines, said Tony Molinaro, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incident, Molinaro said. Results are usually not available for at least a year.
