Alorton police chief shot during traffic stop

ALORTON -- Authorities say the Alorton police chief suffered minor injuries when he was shot during a traffic stop.

Illinois State Police say police chief Robert Cummings' injuries don't appear to be life threatening.

Authorities say gunfire apparently erupted during a routine traffic stop in the Metro East village. Cummings was grazed by a bullet as he tried to arrest a male suspect during the stop.
