DuPage Children's Museum activities

The DuPage Children's Museum, 301 N. Washington St., Naperville, is a not-for-profit organization. Programs are free with museum admission unless otherwise noted. Admission is $7.50 for visitors ages 1 to 59; $6.50 for ages 60 and older. Family memberships are $88 per year. ACM Adventurer memberships are $110 per year and include entry to more than 100 different children's museums in the United States. Hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday; 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. For details, call (630) 637-8000.

Just for grown-ups

Nationally-known author Laura E. Berk brings 30 years of experience and research when she speaks on "Awakening Children's Minds: How Parents and Teachers Can Make a Difference" at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The cost is $15 for members, $20 nonmembers.

Start in art

Young artists ages 2 and 3 look at professional works in the new Wheel Works of Art Exhibit and learn to express themselves in new ways on Wednesday, Oct. 10 and 17. Two sessions are offered: 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. and 10:45 to 11:30 a.m. The cost is $35 for a child and adult partner for members, $40 nonmembers. Prepayment required.

Good show

Young artists display their visions of fish and sea scenes in the "Sea of Shape and Pattern" exhibit opening Friday in the Good Show! Gallery.

Wet 'n' messy

Preschoolers ages 2 and 3 create something amazing by pouring and mixing common ingredients on Friday, Oct. 12 and 19. Two sessions are offered: 9:45 to 10:15 a.m. and 10:45 to 11:15 a.m. The cost is $35 for a child and adult partner for members, $40 nonmembers. Prepayment required.

Hop 'n' bop

Hop to beat and bop your feet as you and your toddler experience rhythm, music and motion from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday. The cost is $12 for child and adult partners for members, $14 nonmembers. Advance payment required.

Performance live

Hubbard Street 2 kicks off the fourth season of Tiny Great Performances from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday. Free with admission.

Scout day

Wolf Scouts can come with a troop or a parent and learn to make a kite that will really fly from 10 to 11 a.m., 11 a.m. to noon, 1 to 2 p.m. or 2 to 3 p.m. Oct. 8. The cost is $8 for Scouts, $4 adults.

Books and beyond

Children ages 4-7 help bring a dramatic reading of the classic Chinese tale, "Tikki, Tikki, Tembo" to life with lantern-making and acting it out from 4 to 5 p.m. Oct. 16. They share their art creations over a story-themed snack. The cost is $16 for a child and partner for members, and $20 nonmembers. Advance payment required.

Autism Family Night

The third Thursday of the month is for children with autism to come and play at the museum, but everyone is welcome. The museum is open 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 18, and resources on recreation, therapy providers, school issues and support organizations are available. Standard museum admission.

Juggling storyteller

Christ Fascione presents a program of interactive storytelling and juggling as part of the Tiny Great Performances at 10:30 a.m. to noon Oct. 20.

Happy scraps

Donations of recyclables and appliances are accepted from 2 to 5 p.m. Oct. 20 in the lobby. Microwaves, computer monitors, televisions, irons and vacuums are not accepted. My first mess
