Four-year-old hit by car in Elgin dies; mother still in critical condition
The 4-year-old boy hit by a car while walking with his mom in Elgin died overnight, police said today.
Sergio Jasso and his mom, Rocio, 38, were taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin Monday afternoon after they were hit by a car at the intersection of Dwight and South Liberty streets, police said.
The two later were taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge where Sergio was pronounced dead around midnight, police said.
Rocio Jasso was still listed in critical condition this afternoon, hospital staff said.
The pair were hit at around 2:40 p.m. Monday by a southbound car driven by an 18-year woman, police said.
No charges have been filed against the driver.
Police say they are still investigating the accident.
